Danette McMahon
Cancelled flight means another night—All alone and missing you
Your pillow’s under my head—I’m on your side of the bed
I’ll toss and turn the whole night through
Morning comes, the alarm has rung
I wait for the coffee to brew
Well, it seems I forgot, cause I made a whole pot
I could’ve made it for one, not two.
Off to work I go, I let everyone know
I’m leaving when I get your call
Not a moment to waste, then I see your face
And into your arms I fall
Chorus:
Fallin’ deeper, deeper in love with you
More than yesterday and the day before
Fallin’ deeper, head over heels, caught up in your love
And, I’m looking forward to all my (every) tomorrows
‘Cause I’m falling deeper, deeper in love
Solo
The phone is off the hook – I won’t need a good book
To help me fall to sleep.
I’ve got you right by side and I’m so glad that I
Fell deep…and I’m gonna keep on
Chorus:
Fallin’ deeper, deeper in love with you
More than yesterday and the day before
Fallin’ deeper, head over heels, caught up in your love
And, I’m looking forward to all my tomorrows
‘Cause I’m falling deeper, deeper in love
Story
I was looking for a relatable situation. Most of us have experienced air travel messing up our plans, in some way. We all know what it feels like to miss someone we care about. And, who wouldn’t want to keep falling deeper in love!
I needed something new to share in my composition class and so I went to work on a jazz waltz! I had been performing professionally for 36 years but I was a novice at songwriting. I felt early on that this one was a mess, but I kept going. I had not recalled singing a song where each verse modulated, at the beginning, but the lyrics were forcing me to do just that…and challenging me! I was hoping it made sense musically and I was so relieved when my professor and friend, Joe LoCasio, was excited about what I brought to work on during my private lesson. It was his very important role to assign a chord name for my voicings and create charts.
Taking this song into the recording studio 15 years after being written, with some of Houston’s finest musicians, made me fall deeper in love with it. As I write this story, “Fallin’ Deeper” is my favorite cut on the album. My producer told me I may change my mind after I hear the album’s final mix and it is mastered. All I’ve been hearing for three months are the roughs but I wait patiently.
Going into this whole project, I enter new territory…I’m finally putting myself and my songs out there big time! They will be subjected to review, thumbs up and thumbs down. Will they make a difference somehow, somewhere? My hope is that if time is taken to catch some of my album, something on it will make you smile. There’s one, in particular, that might make you laugh out loud!
What I am currently experiencing in my life, might be relatable for some of you, just as I had hoped this song would be. I have had to put aside all of my excuses for not doing something and find every possible way imaginable to make things happen. It is giving me a chance to fall deeper in love with the person God created me to be and ‘I’m looking forward to all my tomorrows’!
This is extraordinary! I’ve said for years, that you are the Best Female Vocalist in Houston, Texas. Now, this makes you among the Best Female Vocalists in the World. Congratulations, Danette. I look forward to seeing / hearing you soon.
